Frederick R. Chang is the Director of the Darwin Deason Institute for Cyber Security, the Bobby B. Lyle Endowed Centennial Distinguished Chair in Cyber Security, and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He is also a Senior Fellow in the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies in SMU’s Dedman College and a Distinguished Scholar in the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law at the University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, Chang’s career spans service in the private sector and in government including as the former Director of Research at the National Security Agency.
Dr. Chang has been awarded the National Security Agency Director’s Distinguished Service Medal, and he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering in February of 2016. He has served as a member of the Commission on Cyber Security for the 44th Presidency and as a member of the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board of the National Academies. He is the lead inventor on two U.S. patents and he appeared in the televised National Geographic documentary, Inside the NSA: America's Cyber Secrets. He has twice served as a cyber security expert witness at hearings convened by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Dr. Chang received his B.A. degree from the University of California, San Diego and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Oregon. He has also completed the Program for Senior Executives at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
As chief executive officer and founder, Andrew is responsible for the overall strategy, vision, and funding of Illumio. With expertise in the areas of network security and compliance management, Andrew is a frequent participant in panels, articles, and podcasts for leading industry events and publications.
Goldman Sachs named Andrew one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2015. Prior to Illumio, Andrew was president of Cymtec and led Business Development for VoiceNet, where he was responsible for sales strategy, business development activities, and customer relationship management. Andrew graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a BSBA in Finance.
Frances F. Townsend is Executive Vice President, Worldwide Government, Legal and Business Affairs of MacAndrews & Forbes Incorporated. Prior to her current role, Ms. Townsend was a corporate partner at the law firm Baker Botts, LLP.
She previously served as Assistant to President George W. Bush for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and chaired the Homeland Security Council from May 2004 until January 2008. Ms. Townsend spent thirteen years at the U.S. Department of Justice under the administrations of President George H. W. Bush, President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush.
Ms. Townsend is on the board of directors for three public companies, serving on their compliance, audit, compensation and governance committees. She is also a member of the board of three private companies, serving in the capacity as board chairwoman for one, as well as chairing all three boards’ compensation committees. Ms. Townsend is a trustee of the New York City Police Foundation and the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and serves on numerous other government advisory and nonprofit boards. Ms. Townsend is an on-air analyst for CNN and has regularly appeared on network and cable television as a foreign policy, counter-terrorism, national and homeland security expert.
After three years of study, Ms. Townsend graduated cum laude from American University, where she received a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Psychology. After accelerated study, Ms. Townsend received her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.
