Women’s Initiative

Empowering women worldwide by promoting access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunity, and supporting First Ladies from around the world in using their unique platforms effectively.

Through the Women’s Initiative Fellowship program, we are preparing the next generation of women leaders in the Middle East and North Africa region. Our First Ladies Initiative is engaging and supporting First Ladies from around the world to effectively use their unique platforms.

In the Spotlight: Role and Influence of First Ladies Research

With funding by ExxonMobil, the Bush Institute’s First Ladies Initiative is conducting research, in close collaboration with the International Center for Research on Women, on the role and influence of past and current First Ladies in advancing women's and children's empowerment. 

Addressing a significant research white space, this project identifies and analyzes the factors that contribute to, as wall as inhibit a First Lady from, leveraging her platform to invest in women's and children's rights and empowerment.


More than 40 current and former First Ladies, including First Lady Michelle Obama and Mrs. Cherie Blair, have participated in Initiative summits, collaborative meetings, and other program related activities
